Dear Myself,
If you are reading this twelve months from now, I hope you take a moment to remember the person who wrote these words.
Right now, I am still learning, growing, and trying to figure out the kind of person and professional I want to become at Nepsix College. One of the biggest parts of my life at the moment is my journey into technology and frontend development.
I have learned HTML and CSS, and I am continuing to learn JavaScript and React.
The journey has not always been easy. There have been moments when JavaScript confused me, and React seemed more complicated than I expected.
Sometimes I have questioned whether I know enough to call myself a front-end engineer. But I am learning that being a beginner does not mean I am incapable. It simply means I am still growing.
Twelve months from now, I hope I have become much more confident technically. I want JavaScript to feel natural to me rather than something I am afraid of.
I want to understand React deeply enough to build applications without depending completely on tutorials or copying code. I want to become better at working with APIs, Git and GitHub, deployment, debugging, and solving problems on my own.
Most importantly, I want to learn how to think like a front-end engineer.
I don’t just want to know how to write code. I want to understand how to break a problem into smaller parts, research when I don’t know something, make decisions, and patiently find solutions when things don’t work.
I also hope to build more real projects during the next twelve months. I want to look at my portfolio and GitHub and see evidence of my growth.
I want to be able to look at a project and confidently say, “I built this, and I understand how it works.”
Another important part of my journey is teaching.
I have found myself teaching others while I am still learning myself.
At first, this made me nervous. For example, the first time I was sent to teach in a school, I was really nervous because I had not really mastered or had a solid foundation then. I sometimes wondered how I could teach someone when I was still trying to understand certain things myself. But it has taught me that teaching is also a way of learning.
Twelve months from now, I hope to be a better teacher, a better student, and a more confident person.
I am also working on becoming more disciplined.
I know that motivation will not always be there. Some days I will feel tired, frustrated, or tempted to give up. I want to learn to keep going anyway. I want consistency to become one of my greatest strengths.
There are also things I refuse to compromise while becoming the person I want to be.
I don’t want success to make me dishonest, arrogant, or forgetful of the people who helped me. I want to remain humble, curious, teachable, and willing to admit when I don’t know something.
So, dear me, if you are reading this twelve months from now, I hope you are proud of how far you have come. Maybe you achieved everything you planned, or maybe your journey took a completely different direction. Either way, I hope you kept moving forward.
Remember where you started.
Remember the things that once seemed difficult. Remember the nights you kept learning even when you were frustrated. And most importantly, don’t give up on yourself.
The journey is still going.
From,
Me One Year Ago.
