I Also Made Up My Mind to Not Be a Consumer

Dear Me, 12 Months From Now,

By the time you read this, I need you to have become someone who solves problems by building, not by waiting for perfect conditions.

Life will keep handing you incomplete information, unstable networks, and unclear paths; the answer has never been to freeze until things clarify. It’s been to move: research fast, prototype faster, fail cheap, and adjust. That’s the approach I want you to have made instinctive by now, not something you have to talk yourself into every time.

For Blockchain Engineering, I will be someone who understands the principles, not just the technical know-how; I should be a value-changing person in the tech space in Africa.

I should be pulling people to blockchain not because of the problems I am solving, but because of how I defined my success terms as no limits and no age barrier – just think, design, and build in public.

Someone once said in an interview concerning his journey in tech, and he said that people blab a lot, but people are not shipping, and it made me realise my standing in tech. Because Africa is looking for solution providers, not cooperating engineers in any field of their endeavours.

I will be working on my effective communication habits, allowing me to integrate blockchain into our day-to-day life.

I will not just be a builder, but I will bring my thoughts to life.

The best engineering team that cannot communicate in plain English to non-technical people is like a container with content, but it is not adding value through my thoughts ->to my hands to the keyboard -> to the .com domain name.

I also made up my mind to not be a consumer, but a creator, allowing me to think wide and broad.

This will allow me to think expressly to shift from a student who is a graduate to a problem solver.

By reading books and learning from the best in the field , this will shift me from someone who does not know the systems and structures to an expert in building one.

This will be an advantage to my journey in tech. For me to leverage my mind, this life really depends on your ability to see. And standing on the shoulders of giants.

Finally, one of the major things I will keep telling myself is to refuse laziness.

Even life does not accept laziness as a custom. It is centered on discipline, hunger, and intentionality to execute.

What is my definition of learning?

Learning is the enablement of acquiring knowledge, either good or bad.

Learning is concurrent; learning depends on the individual.

The average young man spends his or her time on TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and what he will tell you is that he is “Learning”. I laugh in Japanese.

I really wanted to talk about this because all this is under the foundation of Education as a topic.

These days we abuse education, so learning is going to be abused. So my question to my generation is: what have you defined as learning?

Is it to make yourself look good or make yourself and other people satisfied?

When that knowledge is solving a problem. Establishing justice and equity in a matter in court and redefining the coming generation. We should learn how to unlearn, relearn, and keep learning.

When the excitement of learning fades away, honestly, I just keep pushing. Because I had to establish a consciousness of people who will drink from my pool of information, I am very intentional with the content I feed myself, because it affects the way I think, reason, and give judgment over something or someone.

I was in a situation in life when I was determined to wake up every morning and build the whole web or finish my to-do list. But when I see what other people are doing, I just feel overwhelmed with all the things they are doing.

I forget that the life we are living is a personal race, and the only way one can finish it is by allowing oneself to be focused.

The Bible says, “If thy eyes are single, the whole body will be full of light”.

Not forgetting your mind. All of this will affect your state of being human because you are trying to catch up with time, and sometimes the way God created us is interdependent. So I had to learn that in that phase of my life I needed to just put my head down and concentrate on what is on my face, not comparing other people’s success stories to mine.

My advice to avoid all the things that distract you and focus on Jesus.

What triggered it was the images of my mates doing things, and I was meditating on it, not focusing and relying on God to guide me and help me fulfill His agenda on earth.

How I responded was as if I would explode, and I would get angry with myself. It made me feel as if I would run around my house. But one thing I came to realize is that every man’s steps are ordered by how he invests them now.

Your tomorrow is not your “tomorrow”; your tomorrow is “Now”.

Thank you, Nepsix.
