Dear Me, 12 Months From Now…
Oh! Wait! Wait!… First off, I want to truly appreciate the past and the present me. At some point in my past years, I struggled with so many things I thought I wouldn’t survive and be a victor in.
I had difficult moments and challenges in communication, health, finances, academics, setting a goal and achieving it, being disciplined in following my steps and plans, and many more. It is solely true when people say,
Knowing your background or where you come from has a way of shaping you.
You can never be prepared for the aftermath of making wrong decisions that bring regrets later on. However, without any doubt, the experiences I’ve had, good or bad and the ones I have are shaping who I’ll be 12 months from now, and I would never trade them for anything else.
The future is always something I look forward to; for me, it gives the sense of hope that all is not lost, it encourages me and gives me a new purpose, and it also distracts me in a way from past worries and helps me propel or channel that energy into being productive. In the future, I’d like to see positive, notable, and undeniable all-round changes. No more breaks, no more stops, flight only. I aim to learn anything and everything positive to make my ride smoother.
Turbulence may come, yet still unshakeable.
Within 12 months from now, I want to learn to be consistent, to build strategic relationships, and to sit under the voice and eyes of a mentor in my field. One way I know I can become irreplaceable and a master in whatever I do is by repetition and consistency. Through consistency, I learn and grow.
I’ve noticed that people at the top are always connected one way or another to each other. It’s like a web among themselves. It may not be in the same field, but they are all benefiting from the relationship with one another.
I also believe that sitting under the eyes and tutoring of a mentor is like a shortcut. It is a faster way to get to where a person is going because of the firsthand knowledge and information they get and, most importantly, by avoiding the mistakes they made.
My utmost goal is to excel and be a master at the things I do, and I would like to be irreplaceable wherever I find myself. Most importantly, I refuse to compromise on honesty, self-respect, and excellence.
Someone I look up to once told me,
If you ever fall, fall forwards, not backwards; never let your back touch the ground.
I believe this statement because falling backwards is a sign of quitting and defeat; nobody likes being defeated. However, falling forwards shows tenacity or perseverance, learning from your mistakes and not giving up easily. I want to always keep trying to be at the highest level, and I also wish many people would do that too because the sky is the limit!
